“Blackbyrd Myoozik, Edmonton’s premier independent record store, was founded in 1993 by Arthur Fafard and Mark Davis (co-founder of the seminal local band Old Reliable, a current member of Concealer as well as a respected solo artist). With years of experience gained while working at the illustrious but now defunct Southside Sound, Blackbyrd was founded on the idea of catering to those discerning music fans.
The first location was at the south end of the High Level bridge, where RedBike is today. The store was large enough that a stage was built and many memorable gigs were hosted including Richard Buckner, Corb Lund, Hayden, a legendary jazz set with Evan Parker and many more. Blackbyrd moved to its current location on Whyte Avenue in 1996 – a smaller but more accessible location and Mark departed for other opportunities shortly thereafter. In 2015, we made our love for Tubby Dog known to the world and opened a location in Calgary.
Today we stock a comprehensive selection of CDs and vinyl in every genre, turntables as well as a wide selection of accessories. (…) We are also a strong supporter of the local music scene, and have employed a number of local musicians throughout the years.”
