Rhino celebrates Ramones 'Leave Home' 40th anniversary
Here’s the thing about prolific bands: because of the number of albums in their back catalog, you tend to find yourself celebrating a lot of release-date anniversaries. This is paying off in a big way for Ramones fans, though, because we’re only a year past the 40th anniversary of the band’s self-titled debut album, and yet we’ve already arrived at the 40th anniversary of their sophomore LP, Leave Home.
In celebration of this classic punk LP hitting the big 4-0, Rhino has released two editions of the album: a straightforward single version of the album that includes the standard 14 songs, and a 3-CD, 1-LP version that offers a remastered version of the original album, a new 40th anniversary mix by original engineer/mixer Ed Stasium, a whole bunch of previously unreleased recordings, and a heretofore-unreleased live show by band at CBGB’s in 1977.
The deluxe edition is a limited edition, numbered set that comes packaged in a 12×12 hardcover book, but in addition to the aforementioned music, it also includes remembrances from Stasium and stories from the band’s manager, Danny Fields, as told to noted music journalist Michael Azerrad.
