New releases on vinyl September 28, 2018: Vinylradar’s choice

Vinylradar has selected this week new releases for you. Enjoy!

– The Joy Formidable: AAARTH
Seradom

Welsh power-trio The Joy Formidable follow-up 2016’s Hitch with their fourth LP. AAARTH is arguably the band’s most full-blooded release to date. Songs such as ‘Dance Of The Locust’ and ‘The Wrong Side’ are full of bombastic guitar lines, cinematic strings and some show-stopping loud-quiet-low moments. Genre-wise it sits somewhere between Biffy Clyro, Jack White and St. Vincent. Out via Full Time Hobby sub-label Hassle (Tubelord, Lonely The Brave).

– Amber Arcades: European Heartbreak
Heavenly

Amber Arcades, the moniker of the Dutch-born musician Annelotte De Graaf, releases her second album. European Heartbreak was recorded and co-produced in LA with Chris Cohen from Deerhoof and in Richmond, Virginia with Trey Pollard (Natalie Prass, The Waterboys, Bedouine) who oversaw horn and string overdubs from Spacebomb.

Annelotte said the following about the album: “If it were called American Heartbreak, you wouldn’t bat an eye. Somehow calling it European Heartbreak feels far less comfortable, almost like a statement in itself. I’m Dutch, hence European. The focus of the record is Europe. As for Heartbreak, for me heartbreak symbolises any kind of falling apart of one of these concepts or stories we invent for ourselves, like romantic love, a sense of identity, nationality, an economic system. It’s kind of a universal thing in my mind.”
